What matters to us
at yomo
As a company, we have not only economic but also social and ecological responsibilities that go beyond legal requirements. Our environmental and sustainability awareness is embedded in the principles of our quality policy.
We respect valuable resources. Efficient use of materials and energy are important parts of our daily behaviour to make a meaningful contribution to a balanced environmental footprint.
Food donations
We achieve sustainable utilisation of our cakes from surplus or sample production through food donations. We proactively pass on this surplus, flawless goods to charitable organisations, homeless shelters and social markets, such as the Red Cross, Caritas, or Austrian organisations.
In this way, we save valuable food carefully produced by our employees from destruction and simultaneously support people in need.
Annually, this results in donations of over 30,000 cakes.
Waste avoidance &Food Circularity
We collaborate with companies that promote waste reduction and raw material recycling, such as Cycle4green. An important aspect is circular food economy, the use of rework, i.e. the reuse of flawless but rejected broken pieces from the production process. This scrap or surplus product is sensibly reused by incorporating rework as a value-preserving circular food ingredient in recipes of other products.
Biowaste, which cannot be entirely avoided, is sent to a biogas plant where it is used for electricity and heat generation.
Sustainable raw material use - Goodness often close by
Only the best, carefully selected and controlled raw materials reach Jomo’s bakery, sourced from long-standing, reliable partners. Wherever possible, we cover demand with regional goods. Some ingredients, however, cannot be sourced from Austria, such as cocoa.
We select this important component of many of our popular cakes according to essential quality and sustainability criteria, focusing especially on fair trade and environmental protection.
Fairtrade
As a Fairtrade license partner, we buy cocoa grown in an environmentally friendly way that protects natural resources and biodiversity. For Fairtrade cocoa, stable minimum prices and Fairtrade premiums are paid, financing social projects in the growing regions. This makes an important contribution to fair trade, secure livelihoods and decent working conditions for cocoa farmers, as well as social justice.
By purchasing products with the Fairtrade logo, you also help to further establish the ecological, economic and social criteria of Fairtrade.
Photovoltaic system - Sustainable energy supply from sunlight provides own electricity
Since January 2024, a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system covering 2,500 m² on the roof of the company building covers a significant portion of Jomo’s electricity demand.
The surplus produced on weekends is fed into the supplier grid. The annual feed-in of approximately 54,000 kWh benefits other consumers in the region.
By using electric vehicles, Jomo promotes e-mobility, with its own charging stations available on site. A shuttle service to the train station for employees is another contribution to environmentally friendly mobility.
